Drivers from countries mentioned above, not resident in Portugal, are authorized to drive in Portugal for the first 185 days from their arrival. After that date they are in default, risking fines of up to € 500.

Before starting the process to change the Portuguese driving license, it is necessary to follow some essential requirements:

• A valid and definitive driving license.
• Minimum legal age required by Portuguese law for the category to which you are qualified.
• Physical and mental and psychological fitness, if necessary.
• Residence in Portugal;
• Failure to comply with driving prohibition or inhibition or security measure to prohibit the granting of a driving license;
